The Genre:
It is a light romantic comedy. Yes! This is on every Bubblies’ wishlist. Our favorite loveteam knows this and requested that this
project with Viu be a light romantic project that would make us smile. They know that Can’t Buy Me Love has its merits, but it was a bit heavy.
What this could mean:
According to what we heard in the behind the scenes video of the story con, this will make us fall in love again. We sure hope so.
The focus of this story:
It is said that there will be catfishing.
What this could mean
This is a relevant topic since the opportunities to hide under a different identity and persona could be very easy in the online world. For one, will there be a lot of interactions online before the actual face-to-face encounters? If both Jameson and Donny targeted Belle in their catfishing, did they both fall for the same barista? And who is initially winning this catfishing? Is there a chance that one of the two boys hid under the persona of the other just to get Belle’s attention?
The Cast:
We did see new faces to be a part of Cha and Mino’s world. For one, Cha’s parents will be Vivian and Rhoel to be played by Mylene Dizon and Benjie Paras. For these two, it seems like the subplot is of lovers from different worlds colliding and falling in love. It is confirmed that Angel Aquino will play Donny’s mom based on the interview in “On Cue” They will also be reunited with Esnyr who has been with them in Love is Color Blind.
What this could mean:
Benjie Paras is a former PBA stand out who eventually transitioned to acting when he retired. His projects are mostly comedy, so we can be sure that he will bring in the laughs. Mylene Dizon and Angel Aquino are two stellar actresses who are adept at shifting from being protagonists and antagonists in their different projects that are mostly dramatic, but it is interesting to see them tackle a lighter comedic role. The same is true for Christian Vasquez. He mostly had roles that are more serious, and one can wonder how he’d be in a light comedy.
It is not yet known, as of the moment, if Christian Vasquez is Donny’s dad, but it looks like he is Jameson Blake’s, and there is a possibility that they grew up together because Donny’s mom works for Christian Vasquez. This is probably a case of two boys who have different dispositions playing together or they can also be always trying to outdo each other. Could there also be a bit of spark between Angel’s character and that of Christian Vasquez?
It is also wonderful to see DonBelle with Esnyr and this time, their characters might have more interaction. Could she be Belle’s best friend?
New Third Party Alert: Since it does look like Jameson Blake will be a third party in this show. Will he be the new actor that will receive the Bubblies’s
hate? That just would mean he was effective in his role. Should there be any attack, here’s hoping that it sticks to the role and
not the person.
The Setting:
Donny did mention that the first few scenes will be shot at the beach. Maybe because Vivian, Cha’s mom,is a surfer and her dad, Rhoel, is a La Union local. The missing piece is we don’t know about Donny and his parents.
What could this mean:
We will expect resort wear for Belle and Donny and the rest of the cast.
Are we going to see surfer Belle since her mom here is one and for Donny as well?
Would Donny be a diving dude? Would Donny simply be a surfing guy? These are all related to the beach.
Characterization:
Belle was described as spunky, while Donny was said to be an introvert.
What could this mean:
Which of the roles they previously have would come close to the new ones? Of course it won’t be exactly like that, but it is a good start to look into the meaning of “spunky” in the online dictionary which is “courageous and determined”. You’d also see that most roles that Belle has are of spunky women. From Max to Caroline, they are women of spunk. Probably, judging from Belle’s character of being determined and courageous, it is possible these characters are close to who she is also. The only question is how outgoing is this new character. Will we see a Belle that is so perky and alive? Will Cha be a cross among Max- Ayef- Cara?
Donny, the introvert. Now, this one is probably close to his characterization as he is a self-confessed introvert. As most cinematic representations of an introvert would be, it would probably be a bit exaggerated. l
Soundtrack:
It is no secret that a series or even a movie needs a good soundtrack to frame the scenes and heighten the emotions.

What could this mean:
Of course, with both Donny and Belle being good singers, the common expectation is that there is a chance that they will sing one or two songs on the soundtrack. Is the vid and pic posted by Rox Santos what we think it is? Is Belle preparing for the soundtrack of How to Spot a Red Flag?
Schedule:
Story Con was last Friday, Sept 27 at lunch time. Some pics and vids of the cast also made its way to socmed over the weekend which shows that the ball is already rolling. As for how many episodes it will be, Donny said it will have fewer episodes than Can’t Buy Me Love. Going thru the VIU’s content, it could be from 6 episodes to around a hundred.
What could this mean:
It might be fast. Could it be short but sweet? We just hope that no matter how many episodes it is, the show will showcase Donny and Belle’s talents and that the story will be well-developed.
Conclusion:
One thing is for sure. Bubblies, Solids, and even CVs are looking forward to this series. There will surely be new wonderful characters to love. There will surely be a different side of Donny and Belle to discover. We are all for it. For sure, How to Spot a Red Flag will be momentous.
