We have been very excited to see any news about Donny and Belle’s new movie, An Inconvenient Love. Last night, the teaser dropped, and Bubblies and Solids were so excited that the views of the teaser was a a whooping million in less than five hours. Even Star Cinema was floored with this enthusiastic reception.
The teaser lives up to its name, it really teases with just seconds... we still have no clue as to its story line, but let us try to grasp at straws and posit some theories.
It is in Ayef’s point of view. She is shown with her daily grind. She talks about how you leave the house early and come home late. In a few seconds, the teaser has documented the commuter warriors’ story. Jockeying in position to get ahead of the line only to meet the ire of others who are in a hurry to get a ride, too. When she rides the LRT, she becomes wary of guys who might take advantage of her being alone in a crowded place. We see a quite jaded Ayef who sees life as a hassle and a constant battle and struggle to be on guard. Just like most commuters who try to make the most out of their trip, she seems to be listening to a song while walking. And in the overpass as Ayef goes about her daily routine, we are introduced to Manny.
Manny is not just going up the stairs. We see him taking off his full-faced mask revealing his handsome looks. He also takes off his jacket,this time showing us his toned arms. He then catches up with Ayef and does not pull her to say hi or tap her, but rather get her earphones to listen to what she has on her playlist. And the magic happens. A few seconds of eye-to-eye contact and the expression on Ayef’s face lightens up almost like the pic that we’ve seen of her in her uniform. The face that recognizes something special is about to happen.

Ayef’s routine is quite straightforward based on what we have seen so far. It is quite common and relatable to say the least. Manny’s entrance to this teaser is quite curious. The mask looks like something someone would use to do sinister things like rob and stuff, but going back to the character sketch provided for him. We are probably seeing the alter ego of the owner of HalaManny-the social activist by night. He probably has a costume like Batman, the billionaire playboy by day, the crime crusader by night. Is that why he has a mask on? Is that why he is also shredding his jacket so that whoever could be chasing him will be thrown off guard? Does he get Ayef’s earphone to throw off the pursuers by making it appear that he is actually with a girl and not the one they are pursuing?
If we listen to what Ayef is saying we see how she is a busy girl and who thinks life is hard enough that makes it impossible to find happiness until unsuspectingly she meets Manny on a very ordinary day. She says he is a hero because he just comes at the right time, we wonder if this is about his nighttime activities or because since he enters her life, he is her hero- the knight in shining armor sweeping her off her firmly planted feet.
And if it is any indication, how one million viewers can watch the teaser in around five hours, then the crowd is eager to watch this Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano film.
