Talking in Korean
It was a breath of fresh air for the emcees and interviewers to
hear a foreign guest speaking in Korean. I think they were surprised and felt
elated that someone from another country is making an effort to speak in their
language. Maybe not fluent but the greetings and the admission that she knows a
handful of Korean words by saying “Ani” was enough to disarm the
interviewer.
Proud to be Pinoy
She started the speech with introducing herself. This seems to
be basic Korean culture as big stars like Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin would always
start a speech or interview with an introduction despite being well-known actors
and actresses. She mentioned her nationality. She could have simply said I am a
Filipino, but she added the word “proud.” It would probably have been a moment
of triumph for a lot of Filipinos in Korea or even anywhere else in the world.
And she wants to make it clear that she shares it with all of us.
Reading a Written Speech
She seemed to have written it on a fly. Pic shows her writing it
down on paper while waiting for their flight. Firstly, writing it down when she
could have typed it on her phone was cute. Hand-written stuff never gets old.
In fact, the feelings intensify when you can totally connect with the verses
you are writing. Secondly, she was not the only one with a prepared speech. If
you know you are going to make a speech, it is not a big issue whether or not
the speech is memorized or done spontaneously. There is no shame in preparing
for it. In fact, it was a good move, it goes to show that she wants you to know
that she won’t be wasting your time blabbering. Lastly, considering it is her
first time to receive an award and on an international stage, too, it helps
calm the nerves in a way that your attention is on the paper and not on the
people in the venue, who are mostly people she does not know and are foreign to
her.
The Thank You Speech
For one, she tried to thank everyone connected to the show and
even the author of the book, the cast, and crew. As they always say, it takes a
village to mount a successful show. She recognized that everyone contributed to
the success of the show, and if she was able to act well, it was also because
the people around her had made it possible for her to do so. What we saw was
the product of everyone functioning well. As VJ Ai tweeted, that was a class
act.
Thanking
the fans
She knows
that the supporters help her in every way. From supporting “He’s Into Her” to
voting for her in SDA. Before you frown and say that this is a popularity contest,
as mentioned in the previous post, the nomination process is controlled by SDA,
and they are in the hands of people who are usually from different countries teaching in universities,
heading broadcast networks, and the like.
Sharing it with Donny
Let us admit this, when we did not see Donny accompanying her to
the flight or being an escort (with the off chance that he arrived the morning
of the Awards Night …yes, I know we can be delulu that way sometimes.) We were
hoping for other things to happen like him being included in her speech. It is
quite logical that he would be, because firstly, it was their project that got
her the nomination. Secondly, Donny was also nominated, and he came in second
in the voting. It would have been a dream if they tied and they would be given
the award together, but we know that Donny’s time will come.
Shout out to Her Mom
Jeevan who made a reaction vid on YT felt
happy to hear Belle giving thanks to her mom, and rightfully so. Tita Kat has
been with Belle in most of the projects that she works on. She patiently waits
for her and brings her things. Some Bubblies witness this when Belle shot the
Smart Ad last August 2022. Those were long hours, and Tita Kat drove for her to
and from the location. She also brought the things from the tent to the car
i.e. Belle’s shoes, the flowers given to her, etc. How is that for a mom who is
a driver and PA rolled into one? So I guess, remembering how she got to this
momentous event, her mom’s support would be something she would easily pull
from memory.
Belle is on The Rise
One thing is clear with her stint in the SDA- She is a star, and
she will continue to shine brighter with the love and support of people around
her. She is a good actress and very much on the way to becoming one of the
best. As Preview says, she is the Belle of the Ball, the face of the future. We
can’t deny that she is getting the accolades she deserves left and right.
