We are
always tickled pink when Donny, Belle, or DonBelle is recognized one way or the
other. And being named as one of the Men Who Matter for 2022 is not an
exception. But what does it mean to be one? I wonder what are the criteria for
this award. What achievement should be brandished to earn a spot in the list? I
looked at the past recipients of the award. For one, it is not every year that
they have a showbiz personality. It seems they pick the names that have made an
impact for the year.
We can’t let the week go without talking about the acceptance speech that he delivered. We also see Donny looking dapper in his camel colored suit. He stood out among the rest of the pack wearing the usual suit colors.

Here are
some noteworthy stuff about his speech:
Women Who Matter: He wanted
to pay homage to the women who matter to the men who matter. He gives a nod to
the women behind the success of those guys who matter. To start off, they would
not be in this world without women especially their mothers. It is a good way
to start the speech. He brought out something unconventional, honoring the
gender opposite that which is being celebrated that night. Way to get not just
everyone’s attention but to also put it out there that women are an integral
part of men’s lives and that should not be overlooked even on a night devoted
to men.
Parental
Support: He made a segue from the women in general to his mom. Thanking her for
being the strongest woman he knows. He also mentioned his dad for helping him
become the man he is today. It speaks of how he is appreciative of both his mom
and dad. He also tries to assure both parents of their contribution in his life
that led him to who he is right now. He may be the one being honored but he
wants to let everyone know that wherever he is now is not only his doing. It is
a product of the love, the nurturing, and role modeling from his parents.
His Initial
Reaction: He mentioned being surprised
to be a part of the list this year. Most of the time, people who are recognized
will be surprised largely because they do things not to be recognized as
someone who matters or to grandstand. They do things not because they want to
boast, but to just make a difference in whatever field they are in and any
recognition is a cherry on top. But he feels honored too to be with Men who
matter. He is unassuming with the impact he has on people and why he is the
hottest actor and endorser at the moment.
What He
Thinks about Men Who Matter: Men who matter do so because they do what they are
passionate about every day. That is a very good point. You can’t just be doing
something good or heroic sporadically. It is in doing what you avowed to do
consistently on a daily basis. It is not a one-time big time thing. If you want
to matter, you have to be dedicated in what you want to pursue at all times and
not just at one go. You cannot be a good basketball player just by making one
big shot. You are a good basketball player because you show up in practice,
listen to the coach, execute the plays, eat and rest well before a game, and so
on and so forth (Which reminds me, do you think we should talk about basketball?
Since he played this in the Star Magic, maybe we could explain stuff.)
The
Appreciation: He cannot be a part of a group that matters without the support
of so many. He sent a nod to ABS-CBN for taking a chance on him and helping
develop his career. From being a VJ, hosting, guesting in different Kapamilya
shows, to being a lead in a TV series and movies to being groomed as a New Gen
Leading Man- Donny has experienced most milestones in his professional career with
ABS-CBN. He mentions his family. No surprise here because we know he is very
tight with his family, not to mention close not only to his siblings but the
whole barangay. We know how they support each other. He made a shout out to the
supporters whom he thinks are watching the awards night. How did he know? Yes,
and everyone is just so proud of what he has to say. The supporters have really
been rabidly following his career and defending him in different issues. Of course,
we are all very happy to know that he is aware of his followers and what they
have been trying to do for him.
The Final Punch:
He hopes that the men with him who matter will not be significant at only one
point in history. He hopes that they will all continue to make waves using
their God-given talents to contribute in making the world a better place. He
hopes that each of them will leave behind a legacy and impact in any way they can
and in any niche they find themselves in.

The speech
is poignant in that there is an acknowledgement of not only the now but also
the future. Going through what powered him to this path, his family and the
network is a part of the continuing past. As they overlap with the present to
him being someone who now matters beyond the confines of his home and his home
network with the additional help of supporters, he hopes that there is a chance
to that whatever they do will have a chance to impact the future and may they
continue to not just be men who matter but also do things that matter. We are
sure Donny will honor this challenge.
