Opposite:
As life for
the Bearkadas seemingly turn thorny, Michiko and Dale who have been both at the
receiving end of miseries, seem to be on the road to a good time. Michiko is
the person that Kuya Dale spends time with the most outside of the family and
Nurse M.
Triple Trouble:
As we’ve said previously, things are not rosy for the other
Bearkadas.
Elle is teary eyed and in the Headmaster’s Office. Is she being
confronted for bad grades? Is she there because she has an infraction? You see
how distraught she is, but she blurts out an accusation and an admonition at
the same time. She says “Stop flirting with my Mom.” There are two levels in
this line. The first one is telling the Headmaster that you are flirting with
my mom, as Deib mentions that the Headmaster is so obvious with her affection
for Tita Macy. The second implication is that Elle has the courage to tell the Headmaster
off, to think she has been expelled previously. She is that gung-ho to get her
family back together.
Naih accuses Lee of not loving her enough. Did he admit to
having a difficult time with adjusting to Naih’s quirks? Is he having a hard
time trying to have a date that Naih can also enjoy? And he seems to be at the
end of trying. Naih seems to be expecting a lot from those things along the
lines of if-you-love-me-you-will-accept-me or if
you-love-me-you-will-like-what-I-like sort of thing. The problem here is there
is such a thing as losing oneself in the process, and it is too difficult when
that happens.
And at the height of all the troubles is the tug-of-war
between Max and Deib’s respective families. After the showdown last episode, we
expect things to go really south. If I were in Max’s shoes, I’d probably have a
hard time picturing Dr. Enrile as a father-in-law. He, in fact, called Max
“malandi” to her face. But that is just me. Both parties concerned will be
shown watching the news on Tito Boyet being able to evade arrest for the nth
time. This time, we wonder how they know about him receiving a tip from his
mother. Honestly, the tip was not advance info as it was just a mere second. It
is not like he moved from place to place because of a tip.
Both groups are visibly tense. The interview they are
watching on TV seems to say that he always receives tips from his mother when
it was only this one time if you would call it as such. Max tries to calm down
Lola Bhaby. Deib is focused on the TV with his mom telling him, “You know what
to do.” Is that her way of pushing Deib away from Max with finality this time?
She knows that the explosive exhortation of her husband is not working. She did
another approach. Insinuating it in the guise of letting Deib decide for
himself of appealing to the instinct of wanting to protect his older brother.
Then, we see Max and Deib in an outdoor scene, and both are
in tears. This could have been a venue for a romantic date, but it seems like
it is the opposite as Deib admits that he does not know if he can trust Max.
Max does not fight it off with insisting that he can, but simply reminds him of
her love despite of everything. The young couple registers the pain with their tears.
We see the gang in a room in Benison and in their casual
clothes. What could they be doing, and it seems Lorde is holding court, trying
to lift everyone’s spirits as the camera pans to sober looking long faced
Benisonians.
We can also see the couple eyeing each other, trying to gauge
if they can say hi to each other and wondering about the other.
Crumbs:
Let us try to find some crumbs from the writers. Here is a tweet from one of the writers. He says this epi pays homage to one of the seminal teen films of all time.
My guess is “The Breakfast Club.” Here are the reasons why I do:
a. 1. Is Elle in the Headmaster’s Office because of an
offense that is why she is crying? Will she be detained?
b. 2. The last scene shown is of them in a Benison
classroom, but wearing not their uniforms but casual clothes. Could they have
been asked to come on a Saturday for detention? The Breakfast Club was the story
of a group of students who come from different cliques but got to know each
other thought detention on a Saturday. They then ended up understanding each other
and warming up to each other.
c. 3. Some of the Bubblies have noticed that their
clothes seem to be the same one that they are wearing in that hallway running
scene. In the Breakfast Club, they sneak out while the teacher assigned to
watch them was watching his favourite soap. Could it be what they try to do?
d. 4. Is the plenary that Lorde is addressing that of the
detention for almost everyone in the batch? What could have happened? Will this
help clear things up between Deib and Max?
What about the crumbs from Ms Van, the head writer?
She teases better acting. That much is a given. We expect nothing less from Donny and Belle. We know that they are both turning out to be promising in their craft. If we focus on the part where she said: “get ready for more intense drama, kilig, and laughter” I think there will be some redeeming scenes, and TagSen will still deliver kilig in EP12. I hope it will make up for the intense drama that could be related to a break up. The laughter might be expected as there seems to be more things to laugh about as they navigate day-to-day life of high school especially, if there is indeed a detention. Can you imagine being cooped up with someone you love whom you also can’t even say hi to each other?
What are your thoughts on this episode? What do you think is the movie used as a peg? What percent is kilig? How much pain will there be?
