Inspired by the overwhelming success of their first Twitter Space dealing with politics, Bubblies organized another one last Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 7pm; this time for the senatoriables. The Twitter Space was entitled A SPACE TO KNOW TROPANG ANGAT: Ipanalo NA-Tink TO. Tropang Angat senators were introduced to the Bubblies by either a family member, a volunteer, or a co-worker. The most important part of the Space is not really the credentials of each or the achievements, although we can all say that they are quite a highly qualified bunch from being Senate returnees who have proven their mettle like Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Leila de Lima Sen. Dick Gordon, and Sen. Sonny Trillanes. There are also some names that are familiar, but have not been tested in the government like Chel Diokno, Alex Lacson, and Sonny Matula. All of whom are lawyers who have in their capacity as private citizens contributed to society in different ways. And last but not the least, the gentleman from CAR, who has been in two governmental posts, Mr. Teddy Baguilat, as congressman and governor.
What one hears in this Space is their loved ones and colleagues talking about the Senatoriables as though one is in the living room with them exchanging chikas of fond memories. They become more like a Tita or a Tito whose exploits have been stuff of legends or a family friend with whom we share countless stories. For one, Ysa Hontiveros talks about core memories of her mom from how she saved Ysa’s friend from drowning during her pool bday party to how like a good Samaritan Risa was the only one who stopped to help a guy who was shot along the highway and brought him to the hospital. These stories would never have seen the light on the campaign rally stage. It was also a powerful moment when Mrs. Pia Lacson started talking about how she was against her husband’s decision to run and how she was overcome with worry because they did not have millions to spend on a national campaign. A lot of wives can relate to a story like that. The senatoriables have become real. They have become humanized which may be more important than their degrees which, mind you, is also quite notable.
Also included in the line-up was Mr. Neri Colmenares’ representative who mentioned something quite memorable for the attendees, and something we should think about. In a nutshell, he said that Mr. Colemenares would love to say, a political platform can easily be made, but the track record is not. In a way, what is important is not the promise that will be made. In this case, past cannot be left in the past unlike what we clamored for in He’s Into Her Season 2 Ep2. The past should be considered to be able to foreshadow how the future will be. Promises can easily be made since it is yet to happen, but what is done is done. And one can be held accountable for what one did and did not do especially when one was needed the most.
Most speakers were aware about who the Bubblies are, and Mr Colmenares’ rep even confirmed if his research was correct about the Bubblies and the meaning and significance of the title of the Twitter Space. Sen. De Lima’s rep, on the other hand, provided a fun fact about Donny’s first campaign performance in Pasig, where he personally witnessed him being nervous before going on stage.
Kudos to the organizers. We promise to put a spotlight on these equally inspiring Bubblies sometime soon, but for now we would like to put this out there, so that you can also find some reasons to cast that vote for hopefully all of the senators on this list last night.
