Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi
For the first time, a DonBelle project’s theme song is not a Belinda Mariano original. Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi is a Bini original, but the Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano duet version is first heard on the ASAP stage in Las Vegas.
We’d like to offer a loose translation to this song since the movie will be released internationally and there are international DonBelle fans. We also would like to offer a look at the significance of the lyrics and the clue it provides about the movie “An Inconvenient Love.”
If you don’t need a translation, you can scroll down to skip the table.
In the teaser, we hear the song being belted out by Bini as we see Manny (Donny’s character) on his motorcycle while Ayef back rides with a smile and serene expression on her face. The title “Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi” verbalizes the sentiments of people in love. “Hindi mapaghiwalay”or it is hard for each other to let go. As much as possible, you’d like to make the most out of each date. You simply want to hang out and be in close proximity with the loved-one. For most teens with curfews, this is a problem. This is when they start to come home late or even come home beyond the curfew because they refuse to let each other go. This part of the song and what we can see in the movie is so relatable.
The line “Kinakabahan na baka gusto mo nang umalis” suggests that the relationship could be in its early stage as the persona is still unsure if the other party wants to stay or go home already. This could be capturing the getting-to-know stage between Manny and Ayef. Two lines suggest the benefit one gets from the other: “Mundo'y tahimik sa iyong tabi” and “Naglalaho ang dilim sa iyong ngiti.” It tells us that one of them longs for peace and finds it with the other. Can it be that Manny or Ayef or both carry the load of the world on their shoulders and find comfort in one another? Manny may be overburdened by pressures of being a scion of a well-to-do family and the expectations that go with it and the advocacies he espouses. Ayef, on the one hand, may be pressured by her dreams and her not-so-well-off background. A snippet of her parents bickering may also be among her burdens. Meeting each other gives them hope and solace. Being with each other lightens the burden or makes them bearable… just as love should be.
We are so excited to know the different parts of the movie that will use this as background music. What about you? Which scenes do you think will use the song?
