DonBelle's Ponderings about Love and Elections.

The election campaign is after all a courtship. Probably, the only time the candidates will be at your doorstep. They also come bearing gifts- not the usual chocolates and flowers, but in the form of your favorite stars performing a song, a dance number, or maybe even both or some other material stuff from baller ids, t-shirts, bags, umbrellas, etc with the candidate’s faces and names on it. All trying to get a “yes” from you. Wisely, the theme of the new ad from #DonBelle in their endorsement of VP Leni and Sen Kiko is courtship and love.  Does your candidate love you? Belle even dares to ask if the candidate loves your family because of that age old idea that marrying someone is also marrying the family. How would you know? Have they consistently shown love through acts of being there for you and showing up at the most difficult times?

Donny and Belle want to ask you to think about who you value the most. Who do you love? For whom is the vote being cast? Voting is an act of love not for the candidate, but for the country, the people you value, and the future generation. From the courtship to the commitment, this ad will put the elections and voting into perspective in the context of love. Befitting of two things: VP Leni’s battlecry: Mas Radikal ang Magmahal and consistent with Donny and Belle being the New Gen Phenomenal Love Team. Referring to each other as Belinda and Donato was also a good touch since it meant they were not portraying a role, but are actually talking about their personal political preferences. It even made sense when Belle said that this is her first election, and it felt a lot like getting into her first relationship.

That they should deliver this message and provide amps of kilig in the process is quite a genius. Drawing parallels from their roles of star-crossed lovers plus the real life score in their personal relationship to this election makes everyone take notice. It does help that their visuals are quite fresh and eye catching, and the chemistry is overflowing. And the message is bridged from the abstract concept of love to clear images of how it should be by showing pics of VP Leni and Sen Kiko helping, listening, interacting with those in the peripheries. The questions that they asked were answered in the end. That this is unique is clear. No catchy jingles that will occupy our LSS. No one dancing the Budots.

From courtship to a commitment at the end of the ad, pretty sure you would have swooned. Even tying it up with a duet they perform from their hit series and during the campaign rallies. Sigurado about their decision on who to vote. This video was able to invite sway voters to take a look at Leni and Kiko from the perspective of why they do things and why we vote. Hopefully, convincing voters to shade number 10 for President and 7 for Vice President.

This campaign ad is iconic. It will be the peg of future campaign ads to come. Can they get two people with as much credibility, fan power, and chemistry? We will never know. For now, a once in a lifetime political ad has come our way. Packed with info, insights, and kilig. Rare. Very rare.

What are your thoughts about the ad? Have you learned a thing or two about love and why it is radical? Have you learned about voting, at least? DonBelle Daily would like to hear from you.
